The winner takes it all

Once we heard about the possibility to work with Pala Eyewear (palaeyewear.com) in Brighton, we were all very excited. A great relief after all of the Erasmus+ UK Brexit stress that we have been through the last couple of weeks. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are very grateful for the opportunity to get the position and for such a quick response. (The decision must have been really tough though, I imagine)

I am very happy to be the one writing this blog because this means that I am the one Pala Eyewear chose to work with.

I would like to express my gratitude to John and Rebecca as this is such a great honour and also an amazing opportunity to improve my English and work for such an interesting company abroad. Pala Eyewear is doing something truly great for the world and is a company that actually lives by its word when it says that it is sustainable. The Skype interviews were a lot of fun and felt a lot more informal than a traditional job interview. John and Rebecca were extremely friendly and over the course of the interview I had the feeling that a real conversation developed about my interests, strengths and weaknesses and not just the usual “by-the-book” questions. Even though we had some slight connection issues it was overall a very pleasant experience and I hope that they enjoyed it as much as I did.

The office I will be working in is in Brighton. What I have concluded from the interview is that I will be given a wide range of interesting tasks that might even be connected to a bigger project. You will be able to hear more about that in my future blogs once I actually arrive in the UK.

On top of all of this, Pala Eyewear said that the unsuccessful interviewees were allowed to choose a pair of their stylish glasses from their online shop which they will then ship to Austria. This really is more than any of us could have asked for.

In conclusion, a big thank you to John and Rebecca at Pala Eyewear for everything they did for us in this last week and I am really looking forward to working with you.

Julian
