The end is near, four weeks are almost finished. It’s crazy how fast time flies by when you’re enjoying oneself. Anyway, other than my previous blog this one will deal with my internship in Malta.
To be honest, I didn’t expect too much when I first heard about my work placement at the “Cynergi Health and Fitness Club”, because I hardly couldn’t imagine how this job will contribute to improve my business skills. However, it turned out to be way better than expected. It all started on the 9th of July as I arrived at the gym and introduced myself to the General Manager, Jim. He then introduced me to my future colleagues at the Reception. Afterwards I was shown around the gym and it was huge, it has not only more than the necessary exercise equipment” there is also a Wellness Area including spa and sauna, without mentioning the two Squash courts.
During my first days I noticed that the working environment is much more informal than we’re used to it in Austria, but I really liked that. In my opinion this kind of working environment makes it easier to talk to and interact with people, which helped me a lot. What’s more an informal working environment makes it also possible to create friendships way faster than a formal working environment does and so I was able to make some new friends.
Fun Fact: Speaking a lot about informality, I even was invited to the company’s barbecue at my first day, where only VIP members and staff were on the guest list. I don’t want to go too much in detail about the barbecue, but there was a great atmosphere with even better food.
Coming back to my work placement at Cynergi I have to say that I was very lucky to get this job comparing to the jobs of Felix and Marko. Although the first week I was mainly occupied with filing and administration tasks. Over time I was assigned more interesting tasks and eventually had the opportunity to take over the reception, which in the beginning challenged me a bit but I got used to it pretty fast. Overall this helped me a lot to improve not only my communication but also my interpersonal skills and it also enabled me to get out of my comfort zone more easily. As a conclusion it can be said that this internship encouraged me to improve my social skills and allowed me to adapt quickly to new situation thus, I had been in continuous contact with different types of customers.
After four weeks of various new experiences it than was time to say Goodbye to my colleagues and it wasn’t that easy as I really enjoyed working with them.
One thing which I forgot to mention, for all of those who were expecting me to come back with a well-trained body, I have to disappoint you I’m still as skinny as before. ;)
Cheers,
Josef

Sounds like a really good experience, well done.
(Some bodies just can’t be trained either!)
