In my first week in Brighton, I noticed that everyone was talking about a big event that was going to take place at the weekend - the Pride. But in the beginning I didn't know exactly what it was until my host mother explained it to me.
Brighton and Hove Pride is an annual event in the city of Brighton and Hove that promotes the equality and diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Since this community is not as publicly represented in Austria as it is in England, this was something new for me. And I also noticed there how open-minded the English are on this subject compared to us Austrians. After a short reflection, I decided to go there and have a look.
That was an enormously funny day and reminded me a little of carnival. I saw a lot of people in disguise, the streets were full of people, loud music was everywhere and all people were celebrating and having a good time.

Brighton Pride is very famous - probably the second biggest Pride event in the UK after London. And yes, Brighton is a very tolerant city. I was speaking to one shop worker there on my visit who said that what she loved about Brighton is the attitude to "live and let live". But that's Brighton, not the whole of the UK - in the same way that Vienna is probably more tolerant and liberal than Salzburg. I'd love to visit Brighton Pride one year.

Yes it's probably just London and Brighton, but I was still amazed by the tolerance of the people there!
